This is the original Toll House Cookie recipe (with a slight modification) found on the back of Nestle Toll House Morsels. The number of cookies depends on the size you choose to make each cookie. There’s nothing better than a soft, chewy chocolate chip cookie!
Ingredients
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs (room temperature)
2 cups (12-ounce package) Nestle Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl and set aside. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter, granualted sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy. NOTE: This is where I modify the recipe a bit. Instead of butter, I use butter-flavored Crisco. Trust me, you will not regret this substitution!
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in the flour mixture.
- Stir in the chocolate morsels and the nuts (if you’re adding nuts). Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. NOTE: I use an air-cookie sheet lined with parchment paper so the cookies don’t stick. Also, my family likes big cookies, so I use an ice cream scoop. This makes fewer cookies, but my family is happy with the oversized cookie!
- Bake approximately 9 minutes or until golden brown. I generally pull my cookies out of the oven at 8 minutes for a softer, chewier cookie. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- NOTE: This recipe can easily be converted to gluten-free. Use your favorite gluten-free flour. If your gluten-free flour does not contain xanthan gum, add 1 teaspoon to the flour mixture. I love King Arthur’s All-Purpose Gluten-Free flour. The gluten-free version is delicious!
